PINDAN FORMATIONS

Pindan Formations is inspired bythe unusual patterns in the landscape in the Kimberley Region of North-Western Australia.

In the 8-month dry season, a magical transformation occurs, where under the relentless sun, the plants die away and the muddy Pindan soil that rests on the beach sand dries and peels back.
This living abstract artwork creates wave-like forms that are especially revealed at sunset when the shadows move across the landscape.

Using a mixture of red, yellow ochre, green, brown, orange, and black, the challenge was to use fluid art and additives to show the imprint of the water (now evaporated) in the soil and the individual sections of the dried mud.

The painting is on a low-textured artist-quality canvas with a fluid painting technique style.

This unique artwork cannot be replicated. It is created using various methods to control flow, connections between colours, and layering to reveal underlying colours and bring depth to the painting.
